Engineering a Cryptic Web Experience
Working closely with the project's visionary, Joel Crawford, I translated a strict philosophical design manifesto into a pixel-perfect, interactive reality using Framer. The core directive was clear: The system existed before the user arrived. It waits.
The Challenge
Restraint over expression: balancing a dark, minimalistic UI with complex background mechanics.
The challenge wasn't adding flashy animations, but rather stripping them away. Every visual effect had to feel like physics, not animation. My task was to balance a dark, minimalistic UI with complex background mechanics to evoke curiosity, recognition, and belonging, strictly avoiding gamification or "startup hype."
The Execution
Pushing native Framer tools to their limits with custom React components and flawless audio synchronization.
To achieve the exact atmosphere required, I engineered a custom React EntranceController to handle a complex chain of events: delayed visibility states, synchronized mist, and a pulsating "heartbeat" glow. Audio was critical, so I implemented memory-preloading optimized for iOS Safari. When the user clicks the CTA, audio triggers instantly, followed by a programmatic blackout and a hard redirect. I also heavily utilized Framer's Component Variables and Booleans to create single, complex components that seamlessly switch states based on interaction timing.
The Visuals & Outcome
Meticulously crafted glitch art, custom typography reveals, and a fully responsive entry sequence.
I implemented custom text reveal effects that mimic recovered evidence—short lines with an imperfect, typewriter cadence and electrical surges. Glows were designed to be "whispers, not lights," ensuring the interface felt like it was reluctantly revealing itself. The result is a meticulously crafted, fully responsive entry sequence that protects the signal of "I AM HUMAN." The interface feels deliberate, grounded, and calm, setting a robust technical foundation for the upcoming phases.
